Pour House Pub on Burnet-August 25, 2010

Wow! Pretty tasty burger.

Pour House Burger- 1/2 lb. Angus ground chuck, with all the fixins'. Of course I added cheddar, bacon & jalapeños.

They LOADED the burger with jalapeños. They were hot, but not too hot.
The FRIES, on the other hand, were HOT!!!! Just out of the fryer.

2 of the 3 burgers we ordered came out first and I had to wait. The waitress apologized and said the kitchen was pretty small. Also, I ordered regular waffle fries, but got seasoned waffle fries instead. Though they were tasty, I would have preferred just plain waffle fries.

I've been back and it's still good.

Jackalope on 6th-July 28, 2010

FINALLY made it to Jackalope. I've been wanting to go there for years since I've heard good things.

Wednesday night is 2-1 Burgers, so I decided to have 2. I shared, so don't worry.
1. Chipotle Bacon Cheeseburger-Smoked Peppers
, chopped bacon, cheddar cheese, smoked pepper mayo.
2. Black & Blue Cheeseburger-Blackened burger, blue cheese, blue cheese dressing, lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion. I forgot to add the buffalo sauce(on request).

They were both good, the B&B was a little "rarer" than I would have liked and the blue cheese dressing was a little weird. They should have just added more BLUE CHEESE.

The Chipotle burger was much better. Cooked perfectly and the smokiness of the chipotle peppers was a nice change.

The fries came out a little cold. I would also suggest ordering at the bar and not by the pizza ovens where the "Order Here" sign is. A LOT quicker.

Here's more of the gang.

Abel's on the Lake-June 23, 2010

This was a last minute deal, so only Kara, Andrew & I showed. Decent burger, but the waiter should know a little more about the menu.

I ordered the SAN JACINTO BURGER. According to the menu: "1/2 lb. fresh ground beef patty on one of our signature buns with jack cheddar cheese and topped with bacon, jack cheddar cheese and pickled jalapeños."

I guess they're really proud of their jack cheddar cheese since they mention it TWICE!

Well, they forgot the bacon on mine. I told the waiter I believed it should have bacon and he said something like...I'm pretty sure it doesn't, but I'll check. He came back with a plate of bacon and said, "You were right." Hmmm. Whaddya know?

April-Hut's Hamburgers

Now I know why I didn't remember this before...because it's Hut's. I still can't figure out why they win The Chronicle's Best Burger. They just aren't. I've been there several times and have never had a burger that I thought was anything but average at best. The only reason I go there is because OTHERS want to go. I try to avoid Hut's as much as possible.

My House-May 29, 2010

No, really. By my pool. Andrew made some sliders. No bacon, but plenty of cheese and jalapeños.
The sweetness of the Hawaiian Rolls added that something special.

I'll add the photos when I can find them.

Your Mom's Burger Bar-March 31, 2010

eatatyourmoms.com

I actually did a little recon with Rebecca before I invited people. WOW!
The first burger I had was the Buffalo Bill. This burger is stuffed with Blue Cheese & Jalapeños, wrapped in bacon, tossed in Buffalo wing sauce and has all the fixins. GREAT Burger!

2nd visit-Frida Kahlo
Stuffed with Jack Cheese & Chorizo, topped with a fried egg, avocado, chipotle lime spread and fixins. Good, but could have used more chorizo.

3rd trip-James Brown
Stuffed with Cheddar & Pulled pork, BBQ sauce & fixins on Texas Toast. Interesting, but not my favorite.

I went back to use a $20 Groupon. I think I had the Willie Nelson, plus Irish Nachos, plus 1/4 wings, plus Mak-N-Cheese.

Just as an FYI, the "wings" are actually full size legs.

I'll continue to return.

Galaxy Cafe on West Lynn-Feb. 27, 2010

We had a Groupon for $15 to get $30 worth of food. It's a good way to feed any possible excessive drinking from the night before.
From what I can recall, it was a pretty good burger. I'll probably have to go back...just to be sure. Wish I had pictures.

Longhorn Po-Boys(UT Campus)-January 2010

Love this place!

1st time wasn't for Burger Club: Bacon-Cheddar-Jalapeño.
What can I say? I try this at most places just to have an even playing field. Burger was very juicy.
AWESOME!

2nd time: Tamaulipas Burger. Amazing!

The chorizo, and muenster weren't overpowering at all. I think it had mushrooms, too. The bread was sweet and the burger was cooked to a perfect medium well.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Chu-Mikal's on E. 7th-December 2009

As I recall, it was a decent burger. Not great, but not bad. They have some pretty decent specials. So far, there are plenty of better places to eat.

Riata Grill-November 2009

I only had an hour to hit this place up with a few friends. I may forget someone, but I know Kara, Andrew, Suzanne, & Jessica were there. I think Debbie and Heather showed up right before I left.
It was tasty.

It's not a great picture, but it was good nonetheless. I think I'll go back someday. You really have to know where this place is to get to it. It's tucked away in a little strip mall.

Mighty Fine Burgers-Official September 2009

Went to Mighty Fine Burgers. Burgers are JUST fine, not MIGHTY fine.
I do like the Fries & Shakes, though. And their lemonade is fresh squeezed.

Nau's Pharmacy-September 4, 2009

I'd never been there until today. Wow, was I missing out. I had the small Bacon Cheeseburger w/potato chips & a Cherry Dr. Pepper. I have to say it was PRETTY DAMN GOOD! I'm pretty sure the patty was homemade and had a good pepper flavor to it. It was still juicy even though it was well-done. I didn't notice 'til the last few bites that the bacon was actually WRAPPED around the patty. Don't know if the whole thing was like that or if the bacon was just too long and had to be "tucked" under the patty. Anyway, VERY good burger. The grill looked pretty small, so sometimes you may have to wait awhile for your food. Only negative thing I can say is that they don't have fries. I will definitely make a return visit.

Also, their fountain drinks are not your typical fountain drinks. They make them from scratch.

Roaring Fork (Downtown)-August 31, 2009

Wow. Pretty damn good burger. Especially since it was $4 off (Monday All Day Happy Hour). It may even be worth the $13 regular price! All burgers come with Bacon & Cheddar(I can't complain about that) and Chipotle Mayo on the side. I ordered my burger medium and it was perfect. It may have been closer to a perfectly cooked well done(it was dark, so I couldn't tell). Others ordered rare and it seemed TOO rare. Anyway, the burger was juicy, the Bacon thick and the cheese melty. The bottom bun could hardly hold together. I had to put the burger top side down when I put it back on the plate. Delicious! At least Texas Monthly got this one right, though they got the Half-Ass Burger instead(half pound instead of 12 oz.). I would DEFINITELY recommend the Big-Ass Burger to anyone who will listen.

Again, Monday nights are a little cheaper but this deal is ONLY AVAILABLE AT THE DOWNTOWN LOCATION...so far.

I still need to use a Gift Card there. Who's in?

Top Notch-July 22, 2009

I think I made a mistake by getting a regular cheeseburger with jalapeño & bacon instead of the Longhorn Special(double meat, special sauce, lettuce, tomato, onions & cheese). I've since remedied that. I've also decided that the onion rings are SO MUCH better than the fries. The char-broiled flavor is what really makes the burgers good here.

ps-they accept credit cards now.

5 Guys Burgers on Guadalupe-June 2009

Post from Jay M.-

Went there on Monday at 6:30. Clean and seem to have plenty of space. The music that was playing was a bit loud for me to hear anyone other than who was right next to me. But I guess that most the time when someone goes they are not in a group of 11. Straight forward menu. No extra charge for toppings. Free refills on drinks. No beer. Now down to the burger.

I got the regular (double meat) bacon cheese burger with tomato, lettuce, grilled onion and pickles. Only one cheese option from what I can tell (American). My feelings were that the burger was average and lacking in one key item for a bacon cheese burger. Mainly the bacon. There really wasn't much on my burger. Needs more bacon. And I really couldn't taste the grilled onions either. And I'm not all that crazy about American cheese. Options on that would be nice.

Now don't get me wrong. I wouldn't walk away from the burger if I was hungry, but I was a little disappointed. Suzanne and I got the cajun fries which we "eh". I would recommend the regular fries that Dave got. Much better.

Would I recommend going there? Well, if you were in that area and hungry for a burger I would suggest you drive the extra 1/2 mile down to Dirty's which BC went to a few months ago. There are other place in that area too, but as for where BC has been, that is where I would recommend.

Hill-Berts Burgers on Burnet Rd.-May 2009

From what I can remember, we all had a good time and the burgers were good. The chocolate shakes are pretty good as well. I should have one for lunch soon.

However, I DID have one problem...besides blurry photos.

I can understand charging for a glass of water...or rather a styrofoam cup to cover the cost of the cup, but charging for a refill of the SAME cup is absolutely RIDICULOUS!

Waterloo Ice House-April 2009

I got the usual...Bacon, Cheddar, Jalapeño burger. It was ok, but the meat wasa little bland. I forgot to ask for the KOBE beef (which they had a while back, but don't know if they still do). Anyway, just an ok burger compared to some of the others we've had already. The fries were excellent, as usual...and you can't really go wrong with tots, can you??? That's it.

Oh, yeah-GREAT Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Cake. Thanks Rebecca (& Curt for having a birthday that coincided w/BC).

Phil's Icehouse-March 2009

I had the Brentwood Burger(Bacon and Cheddar) with Jalapeños. Really good, I thought. Had the regular fries instead of the mix(sweet potato & regular) and thought they were pretty decent, as well. The Onion Rings that Jay and Suzanne got were AWESOME! I don't mind the stringiness of them because the flavor was GREAT! I'll definitely get those next time.

SULLIVAN'S-February 19, 2009

So...once we got a table or two, things got better. Significantly better. I actually ran into an old friend as Andrew & Kara negotiated a table swap with him and his buddies. Good Times.
ANYWAY...since the burgers were half-price, I ALMOST ordered 2...but thought the better of it. I ordered the Burger with Blue Cheese since the waitress said the White Cheddar was on the mild side and they didn't have any BACON or jalapeños to add to it. I have to say that was a good choice. The burger was was cooked perfectly (medium) and the tanginess of the blue cheese was just right. I took my time eating...which doesn't happen often. The fries were pretty good, too.
I almost forgot. Those potato chips with melted Blue Cheese were AWESOME! I don't care what Jessica says.

I'd really like to go back if anyone is interested.

Dirty Martin's Place-January 29, 2009

Home of the Kum Bak Burger
What can I say??? Awesome. The OT Special- Double meat with cheese and bacon BETWEEN the patties. Topped it off with jalapeños and it turned out GREAT. The fries were as good as or better than what

the Crown & Anchor USED to serve. I wanted more. The Onion Rings were very good as well, though maybe a little greasy...oh, whatever...they were tasty. All-in-all a good time....then I noticed another table getting shakes. DAMN them! I had to get my own. Chocolate shake was very good. Gotta get it with whipped cream and a cherry on top.

I'll go back with anyone who wants to go....ANYTIME!

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Burger Tex Airport Blvd.-December 2008

Burger Tex wasn't bad. The burger(bacon, cheese, jalapeño) was tasty enough, though maybe a little peppery. Wasn't happy with the portion of half rings/half fries. Next time I'll just get one or the other...probably fries.

As you may know, they have a "fixins" bar like Fuddruckers. This allows you to add your own jalapeños.

Crown & Anchor-Nov. 21, 2008

Awesome, as usual. Only thing I can complain about is that I should've gotten the DOUBLE meat-bacon-jalapeño-cheeseburger, but the CHEESE fries more than made up for my mistake. I don't really know what else to say.

This place is still one of my favorite places, though I don't get there often enough.

Mooyah Burgers & Fries- October 22 or 23, 2008

I thought this burger was pretty good. Big, juicy (maybe a bit too juicy-but that's because of all the stuff i put on it), tasty. Except for the fact that the cook forgot to put bacon on pretty much everyone's burger who ordered it...really good. Fries were tasty, as well.
ps-they brought bacon to everyone at the table

I've made another trip there(since it's near work) and though the burger & fries were still excellent, the service wasn't great. I actually ordered online and got there at the appropriate time. When I asked for the order, the guy walked to the cash register to check on it. Unfortunately, the cashier hadn't processed the order. What's up with that? Anyway...I had to wait another 10 minutes or so and got a "sorry for the wait". Nothing else.

So anyway, the company that handles the online orders actually emailed and asked about my experience using GOMOBO. Needless to say I responded and she was very surprised. she said she would contact them to see what the problem was. Hopefully it will go better next time.

That is all.

Casino El Camino-Sep. 22, 2008

Chicago BurgerAmarillo Burger

I decided to go in a different direction. Got the CHICAGO Burger instead of the BUFFALO. Split it with Andrew's AMARILLO Burger...and got a couple of bites of Kara's BUFFALO for good measure. I'd have to say that the BUFFALO is still my favorite...followed by the AMARILLO. The AMARILLO had a good kick to it. Really good! The CHICAGO wasn't bad, I mean, how can you go wrong with bacon and cheddar? However, I thought it'd have a little more flavor. Oh well, chalk one up to experimentation. Next time I'll stick to the good old BUFFALO. Oh, and it only took about 20 minutes instead of the usual 45.

ps-Get a REAL burger, Jessica. ;-P

The Hub-1st Meeting-Aug 21, 2008

Ok, so the first meeting of BCA was held last Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008. I think everyone had bacon on their various burgers. Oh, wait. Did Andrew's have bacon??? I know it had queso! Not a bad experience, but I was a little disappointed that the burger was well done. Website said they would be cooked medium. Anyway...I, of course, got the "Fatty"(half pound) with bacon, cheddar & jalapeños. Like I said, not bad...but EVERYTHING's better with BACON, right? Ask Jessica...veggie burger w/bacon. That's the ONLY way I would ever eat a veggie burger...but of course you know I would NEVER eat a veggie burger. The Onion Rings and Fries were AWESOME in my opinion. I believe they're homemade.

Oh, yeah...I also had a "Hubarita". Basically, a margarita made with Agave wine. Very Tart! I switched to beer after one. All in all, a good experience for 1st stop.

Wish I had pics. I'm sure there are some out there somewhere.
